8 Fucked Up Things We Learnt About Britney Spears’ Conservatorship During Her 23-Min Hearing

Britney Spears

Britney Spears has appeared in a Los Angeles court, via phone, to give an impassioned speech, requesting an end to her controversial conservatorship. What she said was just so much worse than what a lot of us thought.

Britney spoke about her 13-year conservatorship in an open court, where members of the press and public could listen to her. She called the conservatorship “abusive” and said it was “doing me way more harm than good.”

“I deserve to have a life,” she said.

Britney’s written speech, which was four pages long, went for more than 20 minutes, here’s what she said.

Britney said she was “forced” to do her Las Vegas residency

When Britney told her management that she didn’t want to do the residency, she was told her own team could sue her if she didn’t cooperate.

“When I said no to one dance move in rehearsals, it was as if I planted a huge bomb somewhere,” she said.

“Ma’am I’m not here to be anyone’s slave, I can say no to a dance move.”

When she didn’t cooperate, she said she was forced to take lithium

After she refused to perform the dance move for her residency, Britney claims her management told her therapist she wasn’t taking her medication. She said this was a lie.

“Out of nowhere, he [Britney’s therapist] put me on lithium. He took me off my normal meds I had been on for five years – and lithium is very, very strong and completely different medication compared to what I was used to,” Britney said.

“You can go mentally impaired if you stay on it longer than five months. But he put me on that and I felt drunk. I couldn’t even have a conversation with my mum or dad about anything.”

Britney said six different nurses monitored her while she was on lithium.

She said her family did nothing to help her during this

“My family didn’t do a goddamn thing,” Britney said. “[Jamie Spears, Britney’s father] was the one who approved all of it. My whole family did nothing.”

Britney said her dad “100,000 per cent” loved to control her

Britney said her dad forced her into a $60,000/month rehab program after her Las Vegas residency was officially cancelled.

“I cried on the phone for an hour and he [Jamie Spears] loved every minute of it,” she said.

“The control he had over someone as powerful as me, as he loved the control to hurt his own daughter 100,000 per cent – he loved it.”

Britney said she worked seven days a week – “no days off” – while at the rehab facility in California, which she likened to “sex-trafficking.”

Britney said her dad, her management, and the people who have played a role in the conservatorship “should be in jail”.

Britney said she has been lying to the world on social media

“I’ve lied and told the whole world I’m okay and I’m happy,” she said. “It’s a lie.”

“I’ve been in denial. I’ve been in shock. I am traumatised. You know, fake it ’til you make it, but now I’m telling you the truth. Okay? I’m not happy. I can’t sleep. I’m so angry, it’s insane and I’m depressed. I cry every day.”

She didn’t know she could petition to end the conservatorship

“I didn’t know I could petition the conservatorship to end,” Britney revealed. “I’m sorry for my ignorance, but I honestly didn’t know that.”

Britney said life under the conservatorship has been “embarrassing and demoralising”.

“I’ve never said it openly – I never thought anyone would believe me,” she said.

“I’m not lying. I just want my life back. And It’s been 13 years and it’s been enough. It’s been a long time since I’ve owned my money and it’s my wish and my dream for all of this to end, without being tested.”

Britney said she wasn’t even allowed to pick her own attorney

Despite having formed a solid relationship with her current attorney Samuel Ingham, Britney said she would like to be able to pick her own lawyer. As she should.

Britney said she isn’t allowed to get pregnant under the conservatorship

Britney said she wants to marry her boyfriend Sam Asghari and start a family together, but the conservatorship won’t let her.

“I was told, right now in the conservatorship, I’m not able to get married or have a baby,” Britney said.

“I have an [IUD] inside of myself right now so I don’t get pregnant. I wanted to take the [IUD] out so I could start trying to have a baby, but the so-called team won’t let me go to the doctor to take it out because they don’t want me to have children – anymore children.”

Britney said, “All I want is to own my money and for this to end and for my boyfriend to be able to drive me in his fucking car. And I would honestly like to sue my family, to be totally honest with you.”
