Anne Hathaway Gets Ahead Of “Fat Shamers” By Announcing Her Own Weight Gain

Anna Hathaway is getting in ahead of the tabloid game and “fat shamers” by announcing that she’s gaining weight for a new film role. In other words: future people about to comment that she’s “let herself go” can piss right off.

She posted a video of her workout to Instagram with the caption: “I am gaining weight for a movie role and it is going well. To all the people who are going to fat shame me in the upcoming months, it’s not me, it’s you. Peace xx”.

She added that she wanted to set the video to Queen‘s ‘Fat Bottomed Girls‘ – an absolute tune, it must always be said – but “copyright said no”.

So which movie is this? A quick glance at her IMDb page says that she’s in pre-production for O2, about a woman who wakes up in a cryogenic chamber with no recollection of how she got there, and who must find her way out until she runs out of air.

Then again, it could be for the just-announced Live Fast Die Hot, in which Hathaway plays a new mum living in New York. (In the most JUDGEMENT-FREE WAY POSSIBLE, that makes slightly more sense, gaining-weight wise.)

Hathaway has spoken out loads in the past about the expectations for actresses to be razor thin at all times (and at all costs). “There is no shame in gaining weight during pregnancy (or ever),” she wrote on Instagram after giving birth to her son Jonathan. “There is no shame if it takes longer than you think it will to lose the weight (if you want to lose it at all). There is no shame in finally breaking down and making your own jean shorts because last summer’s are just too dang short for this summer’s thighs. Bodies change. Bodies grow. Bodies shrink. It’s all love (don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.).”
