The Official ‘The Lion King’ Trailer Is Here To Deliver Some Serious Feels

The visual spectacle of The Lion King reboot has been presented in trailer form, inviting viewers to contemplate a world where the 1994 original ain’t the definitive version.

The brief clip adds some grit to the original: Simba (Donald Glover, this time around) navigating the boneyard is newly ominous, while that buffalo stampede scene is suddenly all too real.

Other key elements for the original get some shine, too. Simba getting doe-eyed and lovestruck at Nala (Beyoncé Knowles) is in there, as is the montage of his adolescence alongside Timon (Billy Eichner) and Pumba (Seth Rogen).

It’s a lot. Director Jon Favreau seems to have envisioned a Sir David Attenborough documentary, but somehow even more heartbreaking. Prep yourself to sing at the screen and cry a little bit when The Lion King hits Aussie screens on July 17.
