5 Confidence-Boosting Tips For The Office To Feel In Charge Of Your 9-5

office

Not all of us were born with the confident gene but look, I reckon it’s a trait that can be created. It’s a darn good mindset to have, really, because we all know that a little self-assurance never went astray during things like hot dates and, of course, in the workplace. Keep reading to see how bold decisions can empower your 9-5.

WHACK ON A BOLD LIP TO MAKE YOU FEEL CONFIDENT

It’s a no-brainer that makeup can boost your confidence, but did you know cosmetics can improve your performance as well? Seriously, researchers from the University of Chieti, Italy and the Harvard Medical School, USA took it upon themselves to test the theory among 186 female students last year. On top of that, red’s associated with action, energy, confidence (and in some cultures, luck), according to colour psychology.

ENCOURAGE PRODUCTIVITY WITH A BANGIN’ DESK SPACE

A recent study in the Journal of Consumer Research found that those who work in a more organised space are more productive and efficient – these are the kind of things that’ll make you feel invincible in the office. The proof is in the pudding (which you will not leave half-eaten next to your keyboard, thank you).

MAKE A DAILY TO-DO LIST

Speaking of feeling powerful in the workplace, compartmentalising your day and ticking those things off as you go will make you feel ace. Having a massive task at hand can make you feel overwhelmed, but if there’s constant positive reinforcements in the shape of ticks, you’ll be feeling like you can take it all on and then some in no time.

POWER DRESS LIKE IT AIN’T NO THANG

By now you may have heard of a little something called enclothed cognition – it’s the understanding that how you dress affects how you behave and perform. Think about it – you’re more likely to have a healthy day if you’re in activewear, and you’re more likely to feel in charge if you don’t have yesterday’s kebab sprawled across your chest.

For this reason I’ll always encourage power dressing. What makes you feel like you da boss? Wear it. Whether it’s a jumpsuit, a blazer or heels, you know full-well what works for you. In addition, you’ll want to have a backup pair of shoes at your desk for those last-minute meetings that are sprung on you.

GET YOUR BRAIN TICKING

It’s no fun arriving at your desk and still feeling half-asleep. Coffee helps, always, but using your commute for the greater good (read: your educational benefit) is an ace idea. Find a podcast that’ll either a) motivate b) inspire or c) educate you, listen to it on your way to work, and I promise you’ll have a better energy that day. Dirty trap music can also do the trick, but it’s totally up to you.

You got this.
