New York Women in Film and Television (NYWIFT) and IRIS, a collective of women filmmakers, will run the lab. The aim is to increase the opportunities in the industry for women older than 40, and NYWIFT says that the program “evolved in recognition of the absence of the female voice in narrative film.”
The mentors for the lab are a pretty impressive lineup: Gina Prince-Bythewood (Beyond the Lights), producer Caroline Kaplan (Boyhood), and writers Kirsten Smith (Legally Blonde, 10 Things I Hate About You) and Jessica Bendinger (Bring It On).
Incase you didn’t feel like writing in a room with fluorescent lighting, wearing a messy bun and your oldest trackie-daks, don’t stress: The month-long workshop is held at the Wiawaka Center for Women. It’s a super gorgeous-looking riverside retreat in upstate New York.
So if your mum could write a movie that would impress our Queen and saviour Meryl, and would be willing to take luxuriously lavish writing holiday in upstate NY, tell her to apply via the NYWIFT website.
POWER, LADIES.
