Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has today announced that all but one local government area in Greater Sydney will be downgraded from Red or Orange zones in the state’s COVID traffic light system from 6pm tonight.

All local government areas except Cumberland will be re-classified from 6pm tonight, marking a huge win for anyone trying to get into Victoria.

“Which means people will be able to travel to or from but they must test within 72 hours. Then they’re free and clear once they get a negative test result,” Andrews said in a press conference today.

Additionally, Greater Brisbane and all of regional New South Wales – except for Wollongong and the Blue Mountains will move to green zones.

As per the state’s traffic light system, all travellers from New South Wales will be required to fill out a quick online permit, with those in green zones free to travel to Victoria with no isolation requirements.

Victoria will also see an ease in COVID restrictions from midnight on Friday, with restrictions on private gatherings being doubled to 30 people.

The news comes as Victoria recorded just one overseas COVID case in quarantine on Friday, with the case being directly linked to the Australian Open and posing no immediate threat to the general public.

Meanwhile, Sydney recorded zero new locally acquired cases on Friday.

Although interstate travel restrictions will ease from 6pm tonight, it’s worth noting that they are subject to change at any time, so it’s worth checking the website prior to departure.
