That ‘Friends’ Monkey Is Still Acting And It’s Still Way More Successful Than I’ll Ever Be

You know what they say, you should never work with animals or children. But clearly somebody is working with animals because that monkey that played Marcel in Friends is somehow still acting more than 15 years after the show called it quits back in ’04.

Yep. The monkey, who’s real name is Katie, is set to be cast in FX’s forthcoming adaptation of the popular comic book series Y: The Last Man by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra.

Katie will play Ampersand the pet capuchin monkey of protagonist Yorick Brown in the forthcoming sci-fi series. The duo miraculously survive a plague that kills off every other male being on the planet.

John Landgraf, the CEO of FX told The Hollywood Reporter that he recognised the superstar monkey while reviewing daily raw footage from the series. Apparently Katie is as memorable as Rachel or Monica.

“I recognise Jennifer Aniston, I recognise Courteney Cox, and I recognise that monkey!” he said.

Yep. Apparently Marcel was such a memorable character that the CEO of FX remembers the face.

I was a little shocked to hear that Katie/Marcel is still kicking, but apparently she’s in her mid- to late-20s and is thriving. If, like me, you had no idea how long capuchin monkeys live, you’ll be glad to hear that she’s got at least 10 years left as the monkeys live to be about 40.

“[She’s] still as good!” Landgraf said of Katie’s a-list acting skills.

She has filmed her part in the pilot episode but we don’t have confirmation if she’ll make the final cut or if she’s gonna be swapped for some of that fancy CGI we saw in The Lion King.

Hopefully we get to see the incredible acting talents of Katie the monkey rather than a computer generated chimp, but either way I’m stoked to hear that Katie is THRIVING. What. A. Queen.
