UK Act Killed In Car Crash Honoured At Final Gig With Empty Stage & Audio

When all four members and the manager of up-and-coming U.K. act Viola Beach died in a car accident last month, fans had to reconcile with the fact they hadn’t just lost five of their peers, but with the fact an entire creative identity had been extinguished.
Before the car Kris Leonard, River Reeves, Thomas Lowe, Jack Dackin, and Craig Tarry plunged from a bridge in Sweden, the act were scheduled to perform on tour with compatriots Blossoms, leading to a final show in Liverpool.

Instead of finding a replacement act for the gigs, Blossoms opted to give friends, fans and family a final tribute to the band last night – by leaving the stage empty bar instruments, and playing Viola Beach’s last, half-hour live recording.

Date night tonight at #Blossoms gig. Only just seen on the tickets that #violabeach should of been here tonight ??

Earlier, Blossoms’ Tom Ogden said “after what happened, we didn’t want to replace Viola Beach with anyone else.”

“It’s quite emotional and upsetting to watch, but celebratory as well. It feels like we’re doing a good thing.”

The gig marks Viola Beach’s last-ever scheduled show. It also serves as a fitting tribute to a band that, by all accounts, worked hard and played bloody well to achieve their place in the music scene.

RIP.
