WATCH: UK Act Viola Beach Posthumously Receive Music Vid, Album Release

At the start of the year, four members and manager of the truly promising indie act Viola Beach lost their lives in a senseless accident.

The UK band, comprised of Kris Leonard, River Reeves, Tomas Lowe, Jack Dakin plus manager Craig Tarry, died after their car plunged into a canal in Sweden. The accident took place hours after the debut performance on their first international tour.

While the act were still in their infancy, that’s not to say they didn’t have a growing following, nor a catalogue of tracks worth committing to record. Now, months after the crash, those songs have been released as Viola Beach’s debut album.

The self-titled record features a slew of jangly tracks that formed the foundation of the band’s sound. Most notably, Boys That Sing has also received the video treatment, and even removed from the band’s circumstances, it’s genuinely good.

If you’ve been paying attention to the young band’s impact, you might recognise that tune as the one Coldplay covered during their headlining Glastonbury set. At the time, frontman Chris Martin said “we’re gonna create Viola Beach’s alternate future for them, and let them headline Glastonbury for a song.”
