As one of the the most prestigious awards in the sporting world, SI’s Sportsman of the the Year has placed James up there with some of the most celebrated – mostly US – athletes of all-time. Previous winners include Tiger Woods (twice), Michael Phelps, Lance Armstrong, Wayne Gretzky, Joe Montana, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The last baller to win the award was Michael Jordan – with the same seasonal rap sheet, minus the Olympic gold – in 1991.
