It’s Not Just You: Brisbane Just Had Its Hottest Summer In Recorded History

Live in Brisbane and felt like maybe you were a touch warm over summer? I know I sure as fuck did. Well, it turns out we’re not a huge pack of whingers who don’t understand the concept of seasons – it was literally the hottest summer in recorded history. As long as we’ve been recording how fucking hot summer is, no summer has ever been this fucking hot.
The average temperature was two degrees higher than it normally is at this time of year, which might not sound like all that much on paper, but feels horrifyingly real when you’re stuck to the couch with your own disgusting sweat constantly.
The city enjoyed (read: did not enjoy) 64 days above 30 degrees, which is the highest number in 11 years and, frankly, far too many.
You may have also noticed a dearth of those lovely heat-easing afternoon showers, as Southern Queensland experienced far less rainfall than would be expected this time of year.
Weird, it’s almost like the “climate” is “changing”.
