Family Of 3 Y.O. Killed By Falling Stone Monument Witnessed It Happen

The three-year-old Sydney girl who was crushed by a sandstone war memorial at a bowling club on New South Wales‘ north coast died in front of her parents and siblings, according to friends of the family.

The girl, who has been identified as Indy Lee Henderson, from the suburb of Airds, was killed on Saturday evening at Black Head Bowling at Hallidays Point when a monument toppled over on top of her. Police say that another child was on top of the monument, which caused it to tip over.
Superintendant Peter Thurtell told the ABC what transpired:
The deceased child was not climbing on top of the war memorial. Another child was climbing on top of the war memorial and it appears as though the weight of that child brought it down and another girl was standing behind that slab.

Mick Styles, who has a holiday van in the local area, says he arrived at the club soon after the monument fell on the girl. He attempted to perform CPR and then assisted paramedics.

“Everyone could see what was going on,” Styles said. “There were a lot of family members there, there were people there collapsed, there were children crying. There was panic everywhere.”

A friend of the family described the incident as a “life-altering freak accident that has just destroyed many people’s lives including all of the poor little girls siblings”.
