‘David Bowie Is’ Exclusively Coming To Melbourne

Put on your red shoes and get ready to dance the blues, kids. The magnificent folks at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (or just… y’know… ACMI) are bringing the mind-bendingly incredible David Bowie Is exhibition to Melbourne in 2015.

David Bowie Is is a wide-ranging, all encompassing look into the art, craft and history of the one and only Starman, giving you an unprecedented look into Bowie’s archives and showcasing a whole swathe of rare and incredible items from his career. Seriously. It’s bound to make you weep a little bit with joy and murmur “Oh! You pretty things!” as you paw lovingly at a glass display case.
What can you expect to see? Original lyric sheets. Hundreds of photographs. Stage sets. Rare videos. Filmed live shows. OVER 50 GODDAMNED COSTUMES. Interviews with key collaborators. Special displays looking at Bowie’s influence as a musician, a performer, a writer and an actor. This list goes on. I can’t stress enough that even if you have just a passing interest in the man, then you are going to cack yourself over this.
The exhibition debuted in London last year and instantly became the Victoria and Albert Museum‘s fastest selling show, and one of its most popular of all time with over 311,000 people marching through to czech it out.
But you don’t have to travel all the way to London to see it anymore!
David Bowie Is will be landing at ACMI in Melbourne’s Federation Square from the 16th of July through to the 1st of November 2015.
Tickets go on sale in November this year. You can get around all the vital details over here.
