Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman Score Golden Globe Nominations

While we are shocked to the core that Channing Tatum has been snubbed by the Golden Globes for his role doing whatever this thing is called in Magic Mike, it’s exciting to see a couple of Australians get recognised for their contributions to film and television in 2012 because we can validate our reason for watching awards ceremonies as a show of national pride, instead of the usual reasons like criticising outfits and Tina Fey photobombs.

This morning the Golden Globe nominations were announced with two going to Nicole Kidman, one for her slutty turn as sexually enthusiastic trailer trash in Lee Daniels’ The Paperboy – in which Kidman’s widely praised performance is alleged to be one of the movie’s few positives – where she is nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category. Her other nomination is for Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for her role in HBO movie, Hemingway & Gellhorn.

Nicole will be celebrating her nods with her husband – and fellow nominee – Keith Urban, who is up for a Best Original Song Globe. Other Aussies in the mix are Hugh Jackman, nominated for his searing performance in Les Miserables, and Naomi Watts for her role in The Impossible, based on the true story of a family caught up in the Thailand tsunami.

The Globes ceremony is set for 13 January 2013 and will be hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, so that should give you enough motivation to watch right there.
