YouTube star Cameron Dallas was arrested over the weekend and charged with felony assault, over an alleged attack in an Aspen hotel that left a man bloodied after being punched in the face.

Police in Colorado have confirmed that officers were called to the Hyatt Residences Grand Aspen in the early hours of December 29, where they found a man “bleeding from injuries to his face.”

The 24-year-old social media star, who had been staying at the hotel, was taken into custody shortly after and charged with second-degree assault. He was later released on $5000 bond.

Upon his release, he shared a copy of his mugshot with his 21 million Instagram followers, and made a brief and cryptic statement, saying:

“Unfortunately sometimes in life you find yourself in a situation where you have to protect yourself and the people you care about, have a safe and happy new year, 2019 is going to be an amazing one.”

Cameron Dallas got his start on Vine before embarking on a burgeoning acting and singing career. He has more than five million YouTube subscribers, and starred in the Netflix reality series Chasing Cameron, as well as featuring in the video for Charli XCX‘s ‘Boys‘.

In 2015, Dallas was arrested on felony vandalism charges, after someone hurled a paint can out of his sixth floor window during a party, and police arrived to find his dwelling and the hallway of his apartment complex splattered with paint, as part of a stunt for a video.

He is due back in court to face the current charges on January 22.
