An Original Ghostbuster Just Confirmed His Return For The Third Movie

The new Kristen Wiig-led Ghostbusters just keeps getting more and more exciting, with word coming through today that Dan Aykroyd, star of the first two films, will return for another go-around.

It appears, however, that there won’t be any continuity between the new team and the old – Indie Revolver report that Aykroyd is making a cameo as a cab driver, who may or may not end up covered in ectoplasm at some point.
Aykroyd has reportedy already shot his scene, in which he appears alongside Wiig, and in it, he “utters a famous line from the first film’s theme song.”
Whatever it is, we’re assuming it’s something PG-rated like “I ain’t afraid of no ghost” rather than the more scandalous “bustin’ makes me feel good,” which could attract an unwanted R-rating.
The actor has said that the new team – of Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Melissa McCarthy – are “adorable, hilarious and badass”, and that his tie on set was “exhilarating.”
During the Sony email hack last year, Bill Murray‘s reluctance to participate in the Paul Feig-directed film came to light, with the studio going as far as to suggest legal action against the star for refusing to come on board.
It’s unclear whether Ernie Hudson will appear in a similar capacity to Aykroyd. The fourth original Ghostbuster, Harold Ramistragically passed away last year.
The film, which also stars Chris Hemsworth, Cecily Strong and Andy Garcia, is out next year.
