Hundreds Evacuate After Fire Breaks Out At Prominent Melbourne Nightclub

A fire has broken out at prominent Melbourne music venue 170 Russell overnight, forcing over 300 people to evacuate.

Authorities were called to the scene after 10PM, with 25 firefighters needing half an hour to extinguish the flames.

No one was reported injured.

Captured footage shows host Alex Dyson calmly informing the crowd about the blaze and instructing them to head to their nearest exit.

He’s since been praised for the way he handled the situation.

“He went from party to professional in, like, a second flat,” Andrea told The Age, “my friends and I got out, like, ASAP within, like, five minutes of spotting the fire and letting someone know.”

The venue, AKA Billboard on Saturdays, had been hosting the sold-out event Bingo Loco.

The blaze began near the stage area before heading into the roof. The cause is now being investigated.
