Tassie Named South Pacific’s Best Island Travel Destination

Fair play to you, a lot of you are probably already well across this. And this expat Islander in particular is certainly well across the knowledge already. But it’s nice to have it made official.

Tasmania has been named the South Pacific’s Best Island Destination by an annual poll in Travel & Leisure Magazine, beating out more fancied, tropical, “traditional” island getaways from warmer climates.
More to that, the Apple Isle managed to score the number 4 spot in the worldwide overall list of island travel locations.
The list takes into account the results of a wide-ranging poll, which – for the Islands category – rates natural attractions and beaches, activities and sights, restaurants and food, people and friendliness, value, and its capacity for romance.
In the South Pacific category, Tassie managed to beat out French Polynesian rivals Moorea and Bora Bora, who finished 2nd and fourth respectively, Fiji, who came in at 5th, and local rival the Great Barrier Reef, which finished third. Cop that, ya coraly dickheads.
Meanwhile in the worldwide list, Tassie’s natural beauty and permanent chill was only beaten by the home of Dragons Galápagos Islands, Bintang singlet central Bali, and “it’s basically just stilt huts on a sandbarMaldives.
This means that, on the overall list, Tasmania tops places like Santorini in Greece, Maui and Kauai in Hawaii, and the entire Eurovision-loving nation of Malta.
So there you have it. Thanks in large part to a pretty unprecedented cultural upswing spearheaded by MONA, Tassie is in the middle of a new golden age, for which you would be an absolute mug to not get involved with.
Our travel guide for Hobart still rings as pretty darned bang on. But there’s heaps more to Tassie than that. Get a car and go exploring! See the magnificent Cataract Gorge, or marvel at the monkeys in City Park whilst you’re traversing the golden Boag’s mile that is the beautiful Launceston. Hit up the East Coast, traversing St Helens Pass to see the stunning Iron House Brewery, before heading up to a family feast of beautiful coastal towns like Scamander, St Helens, or Binalong Bay. Visit the Tarkine! Go see Port Arthur! Skim along the North West Coast or head out west to see The Nut in Stanley!
TASSIE. GET AMONGST IT.
