Sydney Airport Now Has A ‘Quiet Terminal’ To Help You Relax Before Your Flight

International travel outta Australia is exhausting af – and that feeling of being completely drained can even start before you’re on the flight, what with the check-in, and security, and just trying to make it through Duty Free in one piece.

Well Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport is trying to help you to chill the hell out before you hop on board with their new ‘quiet terminal’ initiative, which will see you entering the plane like some kind of zen master, able to cope with crying babies, the middle seat, and the person behind you jabbing their seat back screen with far too much force.

What does a ‘quiet terminal’ mean in a practical sense? Less fuckin’ grating announcements in Sydney’s T1 International Terminal, y’know, the ones telling everyone on the premises every ten minutes that the 11am Jetstar flight to Hawaii has commenced boarding. Only essential announcements will be broadcast outside of gate areas, where you might be having a meal or trying to see through the dark of Victoria’s Secret.

Changi, Dubai, Hong Kong and Helsinki are just some of the airports across the world to already boast what we’re calling shussshhh terminals. The chill zone. Silence class. Which makes sense – when you check in you find out where and when you’re boarding. Just constantly check those screens that are everywhere – or @flySYD on Facey B and Twitter –  and you should be just fine.

Here’s Sydney Airport CEO Geoff Culbert bragging about the move:

Passengers will now be able to relax without being interrupted by constant announcements.

We’re always looking at how we can make the airport experience even more enjoyable for our passengers. This initiative leapt out as one that would make an immediate and material difference and would align us with the practices of the best airports globally.

We’ve worked closely with our airline partners and other stakeholders to ensure we’ve struck the right balance between providing a relaxing and stress-free environment and ensuring passengers have the information they need in terms of signage and updated flight information to assist them to get to their gate in a timely and efficient manner.

Sydney Airport started up their new, diabolically relaxing plan earlier this week.

Next step, go full ‘quiet carriage’ and get people in certain sections of the airport to switch their phones to silent, have convos somewhere, use headphones. That way if you’ve got a six-hour layover, you could get a decent amount of undisturbed kip…
