Here’s 5 Summer Activities To Do In Adelaide, ’Cos It’s More Than Just Wine

Ah, Adelaide. The city of churches. The place where I once stayed out till 4am, probably with sunstroke, drinking tequila dancing on tables.

Adelaide tends to get a bit of a bad rap – it’s not as big as Sydney or Melbourne, but we all know that it’s not about the size, it’s all about what you do with it.

And boy howdy there’s a bunch of stuff you can do in the South Aus capital in the warmer months that isn’t entirely staying inside and bingeing tv shows or spending entire days learning how to swill wine at the endless wineries.

Granted, Adelaide gets a little bit warm over summer so if you wear makeup, Rimmel London‘s 25HR Lasting Finish Breathable foundation and concealer are going to be a lifesavers. They’re lightweight, so it’ll feel like you’re wearing nothin’ at all while you’re out wandering around the city.

Hit ‘Em For Six

Adelaide plays host to both the Big Bash League and test cricket every summer. This year, there’s a massive double header on New Years Eve at Adelaide Oval, where both the mens and womens Adelaide Strikers will be going up against Brisbane Heat all afternoon.

Cover Your Arts At The Fringe

Every February, the city comes to life with the Adelaide Fringe. It’s Australia’s biggest open-air culture and arts festival, and Adelaide throws a hell of a party.

Comedy nights, theatre performances, and parties light up the city every night for close to a month, and during the day you can explore the city as it transforms with a bunch of street art and street performers.

If you wanna spend the balmy evenings outside, The Parade Of Light is happening every night from 8:30pm until midnight. Watch massive light displays that mimic the Northern Lights right in the middle of the city.

Stop And Smell The Roses

If you want to slow it down for a bit, then the Botanic Gardens are the #1 spot for you. Sprawling across 51 acres at the north-eastern corner of the city, the gardens are a grouse spot for a cheeky Sunday arvo picnic.

With gardens that feature Australian native plants, dahlias, cacti and succulents, and an Alice In Wonderland dreamscape rose garden among others, the botanic gardens boast some brilliant blooms and stunning architecture.

Beauty blogger and Adelaide local Kristen Antrobus explored the gardens while trialling out the Rimmel London 25HR Lasting Finish Breathable foundation and concealer, which are perfect for a day out in the sunshine ‘cos you’re not feeling like you’re wearing a face full of product.

Watch The Sunsets Over The Beaches

It’s a total myth that you have to trip all the way over to Western Australia to watch the sun dip below the water of an evening. A quick trip down to the seaside at dusk will give you a stunning display that East Coasters would bloody kill for.

If you want to have a splash about, or sit on the shore and watch the sun set over the water (ugh, what a dream) then you can hit up Glenelg Beach, a popular tourist spot, or some of the hidden gems along the coastline like Seacliff and Henley Beach.

Get Ya Fest On

Over the summer months, Adelaide really comes to life and makes the most of the longer days with more arts and culture festivals that you can poke a stick at.

Alongside Fringe, there’s also Adelaide Festival and WOMADelaide, who both boast strong lineups for the 2018 editions.

Adelaide Fest is on from 2nd-18th March, and is bringing artists like Kate Miller-HeidkeGrace JonesMount Kimbie, and Grizzly Bear to venues across the city.

WOMADelaide happens during the Adelaide Festival season (9th-12th March) in the botanical gardens as its backdrop, and is playing host this year to The AvalanchesBaker BoyGorgol BordelloDan SultanDidirri, and heaps more.

There’s a whole bunch of other spots to check out if you find yourself in Adelaide over summer, this is barely scratching the surface. And if you wanna put your best face forward, Rimmel London’s 25HR Lasting Finish Breathable foundation and concealer are perfect for a day out in the South Aussie sun ‘cos they feel invisible and stay put no matter what adventures you’re on.
