Science Has Finally Confirmed The Window Is The Best Plane Seat For Snoozin’

Book The Window Seat For The Best Quality Sleep

I don’t mean to brag (yes I do) but I have forever told people that the window seat is where it’s at for long-haul flights. The view, for starters, is a major pull as showcased by the hundreds of thousands of post under #windowseat on InstagraScience Hasm. But I’ve always said it’s the only real option for a snooze, even for my 6ft tall self. I know I’ve made this all about me, but now science has backed me up and I really LOVE being right.

Speaking to Business Insider, certified sleep science coach and co-founder of Tuck, Bill Fish, confirmed that I am always right. No, but he says that the window seat is the best place for a “quality sleep“.

With the window, you are able to give at least some stability to your neck to keep your spine aligned that isn’t possible in the middle or aisle seat. The second key is that if the person in the middle or aisle seat need to get up to use the restroom or move around the plane, you won’t be disturbed.

I.e. Always be the one doing the disturbing, don’t be disturbed. Strictly in a getting up to pee kind of way.

I mean yes, in an ideal world we’d all be in Business Class and it wouldn’t matter where the hell we sat because we were fancy enough not to worry about things like shared armrests and stretching legs. But that’s certainly not in my sights so here I am getting excited about being right about a window seat.

Insider also spoke to the CEO of a Canadian travel agency who claimed that sitting somewhere in the middle of the plane AND in the window seat was even better for sleep, but I’d like to say I completely disagree. And as we’ve clearly seen, I’m always right.

I understand the arguement that it keeps you away from the staff only areas and flushing toilets, but who even hears the toilet flushing anyway? Even if you don’t have your headphones in, the plane is so loud in general. My personal choice is right up the back so you can recline any damn time you want, as far back as you want, without worrying about who’s behind you.
