NYC’s Deeply Iconic Plaza Hotel Is Up For Sale If You’ve Got $633 Million

It doesn’t get much more New York than The Plaza Hotel.

The 20-storey luxury hotel, located in Midtown Manhattan, has played host to some of the most iconic moments in pop culture history.

Nick Carraway and Jordan Baker caught up at the hotel’s tea garden in The Great Gatsby, The Beatles stayed there on their first ever trip to New York and who could forget when Emma and Liv fought about who’s wedding would be at The Plaza’s Grand Ballroom in 2009 guilty-pleasure Bride Wars?!

Now, the landmark is up for sale.

If you’re thinking of buying it, you better start saving that poo change a little harder, ’cause the asking price is a cool USD$500 million, which converts to a staggering $633,553,005 million ‘Strayan dollarydoos.

In all seriousness, that’s actually a fairly reasonable price, when you consider the fact that it underwent a USD$400 million dollar renovation only a few years ago. Previously, it’s been in the hands of Conrad Hilton (Paris‘ grandfather) and actual President of the United States, Donald Trump.

If you were to purchase the hotel, built in 1907, you’d be picking up a 282 guest rooms, a shopping mall, the swanky Palm Court restaurant and bar, a food hall, numerous conference rooms and of course, The Grand Ballroom. Return on investment is high, with one of the more expensive rooms in the hotel setting you back almost AUD$40,000 a night.

You mightn’t be able to afford to stay in the five-star hotel any time soon, but its well worth a visit when in the Big Apple.

There’s a reason Biggie was so passionate about the East Coast, and Contiki‘s Eastern Discovery tour will show you why. You’ll explore art deco architecture in Miami, eat yourself sick on street hot dogs in New York City and dive deep into the historic Jazz scene in New Orleans on this 14-day whip around.
