Lonely Planet Proclaims Brisbane The Coolest City in Australia

After its shocking declaration that Adelaide is one of the Top Ten Cities To Visit In 2014, contrarian list makers who may or may not know what they are talking about when it comes to the cultural virtues of various Australian metropolises, Lonely Planet, have again bitch slapped the smarmy denizens of Sydney and Melbourne by proclaiming Northern neighbours Brisbane as the coolest city in the country.

“Booming Brisbane is an energetic river town on the way up with an edgy arts scene, pumping nightlife and great coffee and restaurants,” Lonely Planet says. “Sub-culture undercurrents run deep here with cool bookshops, globally-inspired restaurants and cafes, bars and band rooms aplenty.”
And while immediate access to “the beach” is pretty much impossible unless you’re brave enough to submerge yourself in the state’s largest toddler urine catchment area, Brisbane can boast the best public contemporary art gallery in the country (GOMA), one of Australia’s most respected fashion boutiques (Blonde Venus), a bridge named after The Go Betweens and a cafe operated by The Grates. Just don’t drink the river water there.
Not cool. Not cool at all.
