Horrorshow Count All The Horrorshow Tattoos In Their 2013 Australian Tour Diary

Visionary Elefant Traks flag bearers and inner-west Sydney hip hop duo Horrorshow – vocalist Solo and producer Adit – take us behind the scenes and on the tour van in a continent-spanning photo diary of their 22 date tour of the country this year in support of their ARIA nominated third studio album, King Amongst Many. Along the way we get to meet their extended touring family, kitsch tourist stop offs, local hip hop legends and a surprising amount of Horrowshow tattoos. Buckle up…

The morning the tour begins we wake up in a hotel room in Melbourne having spent the night before shooting a film clip. A flight, tour van pack and a drive later we’re ready for the first show.

Sound check at our sold out hometown gig at The Metro in Sydney. We’ve got a lot of friends and family coming through – tonight will be one for the books!

And indeed it was. Whole crowd rapping along to every word, it was truly a sight to behold. A definite highlight was ‘Own Backyard’ with Jimblah.

The merch desk in Sydney. The calm before the storm.

Our set at Sprung Festival, Brisbane. Never seen so many rappers in one place before.

Tattoo of our logo at Sprung. One of four Horrorshow tattoos spotted that day and many more we encountered on the tour – it’s always awesome to see these.

After one of the biggest weeks I’ve ever had – last minute rehearsals, a film shoot and four shows in three states – it’s safe to say I’m feeling pretty wrecked.

The tour rolls on to a sold out show at The Corner in Melbourne. This is a classic venue we’ve heard a lot about over the years and we’re excited to finally play here!

Unusually, there were a few fights in the crowd tonight including a cat fight in the front row which I quickly shut down. Despite all that, we had a great gig.

Adit cold chilling in what I dubbed the Scarface Room upstairs at Saloon Bar in Traralgon. The empty dance floor behind him will later on become a heaving mass of locals

Tour posse dinner at an incredible Chinese restaurant in Melbourne. We book without realizing it’s $70 a head but roll with it anyway – we could all use a good feed.

Us and Jimblah, Georgia and our sound guy Alex getting our tourist snap on with Fergus the Bull on the way to Bunbury, WA. Couldn’t resist.

Sound check at Amplifier in Perth. We love this venue, even if it is haunted by the ghosts of CD’s past.

WA crowds are some of the best in Australia. Their energy and enthusiasm always makes for a great show, and tonight’s sold out gig is no exception. Photo by Wordplay Magazine

Another tattoo sighting in Fremantle, this time of the blurb I wrote for the inside of our album King Amongst Many. Crazy stuff. Shouts to the chick who came up to the merch desk wearing just a cardigan and a bra.

Georgia Blod exploring our unique accommodation in Launceston, Tasmania. Tonight’s show is small but pretty buckwild – we end up having to close the van door on a bunch of excited folks who keep trying to pass us joints.

Haz Beats and Lui Silk of Home Brew popping round for a few quiet beverages after the show in Hobart. With a 6am lobby call we decide the best course of action is to stay up all night – not such a good idea in the morning.     T

The legendary Delta hops up to bust a verse in Adelaide. As kids we grew up listening to Delta’s music so to have him get up and perform with us on stage is an honour.

One of the most testing things about touring is the sheer amount of time spent in a van. Here’s Georgia and Jimblah passing the time working on some new tunes.

Another Horrorshow inspired tattoo in Ballarat. Spotted at the Karova Lounge which takes its name from A Clockwork Orange, the same book the word ‘horrorshow’ comes from.

We played a beautiful ritzy venue in Geelong called The Wool Exchange. Adit and I had dinner on the water before the show and took in the view. How romantic.

Double Luke action! Here is our tour manager and sound guy extraordinaire Luke Snarl at our hotel in Melbourne. They’ve just woken up – can you tell?

Luke shooting some hoops in Melbourne on a rare day off (and even rarer blue skies). Days like this recharge you on the road.

In the middle of this tour craziness, we head into JJJ studios to perform a cover of Lou Reed / A Tribe Called Quest for Like A Version. Kicks galore.

Adit on our day trip to Litchfield National Park, NT. We played our first ever headline show in Darwin (it sold out!) and stuck around for a few days to take it all in.

Sunset in Darwin on our last day there before heading home. Beautiful country.

Coming down into a gloomy Brisbane for the last leg of the tour.

While we were on the road our fellow One Day crew members Spit Syndicate were also out on a tour of their own. This was waiting for us backstage at Sol Bar, Maroochydore.

Another tattoo, this one from ‘Uplift’ off our first album The Grey Space.

The tour’s starting to take its toll by this point. Poor old Jimblah falling asleep with beer in hand after his set, Maroochydore. The joke is on me though as I end this night by drunkenly spewing out of the tour van

Catching up with legendary human and unofficial president of hip hop and being talented Tom Thum aka Tommy Ill at our sold out show at The Zoo in Brisbane.

Last show of the tour in Byron Bay! We invite Luke to take his tour manager cap off for a second and he opens the show with an awesomely charming set.

The set list for the final gig. Our One Day brethren joined us in Byron for the show, which meant Spit Syndicate, and Joyride hopped up with us. Fun times.

The final after party in Byron Bay. We endured a seriously aggressive hotelier to have a few drinks together, present Luke with an award for tour manager of the year and debrief on the journey of the tour. Awesome bunch of humans, we appreciate them all being a part of it.

Horrorshow earned a nominatation for Best Urban Album at this year’s ARIA Awards for their latest release, King Amongst Many.
