A Bunch Of Aussie Hotels That Won’t Make You Miss Home On Longer Trips

Skye Suites, Sydney

Staycations and mini-getaways are all well and good (great actually), but sometimes you find yourself in a different city for longer. Maybe it’s a holiday, maybe it’s work or maybe it’s just one of those things in life that mean you need to stay in a different city to your own for a little longer, but not long enough to find something more permanent.

My criteria for long-term accommodation that won’t make you go crazy are pretty simple. The first is they must have a kitchen because if you’ve tried living of takeaway for more than a week you’ll know that you’re either looking at spending a fortune or feeling like absolute crap from the gross cheap stuff.

The next is a gym and/or pool because pools are always great but also living in a small place can make you go kinda cray if you can’t let your energy out, particularly if your only chance to exercise is the walk to and from your temporary office. And finally, some sort of reasonable laundry service, preferably one you can operate yourself.

Sydney

Check out Skye Suites Sydney. They’re brand new, which is always fun, they have a really funky space dome thing going on and they’re the first short or long-term boutique serviced apartments in the CBD. Which means you have the kitchen to make your own meals, but also no-one could blame you if you chose to sneak across the road to Barangaroo and treat yo’self with the amazing restaurants popping up there. There’s also Chromecasting on the TV, a choice of mattress firmness and free drinks when you book here.

Perth

Perth Ascot Central Apartment Hotel is everything I’m looking for here. It’s pretty centrally located so you’re close to all the Perth things, the rooms may not appear that sleek but they look like somewhere you’d actually live, which can be kind of a nice feeling when you’re missing your own home. Plus look at the outdoor pool and BBQ, just delightful.

Melbourne

Wyndel Apartments in Melbourne have a few spots around the city so you can suit yourself. But all of them are basically furnished, fully contained apartments, with everything you’d have in your own home. Well ok, all the basics you’d have in your own home. I will say not all of them tick the pool/gym box but enough of them do that you still have a choice.

Brisbane

Fortitude Valley holds a special place in my messiest of hearts, so I would defs stay in the area on return stays to Brisvegas. Republic Apartments are right bang in that so you’re close to a bunch of cool bars (and clubs, if you’re in the mood for getting a little trashy). They tick all my boxes and look like the kind of adult apartment I hope to someday possess.

Adelaide

If you’ve never stayed in an Art Series hotel before you’re in for a damn treat. You’re going to want to save a bit, tbh, but they’re so nice if you can swing it you won’t be sorry. Has all the things you need, plus they’re covered in actual art, not just random hotel art. They usually do actual tours of the art in their hotels too so if that’s your jam, get on it.

Hobart

Obviously anywhere you’re staying for a long time you’re going to want a decent kitchen, but I feel like that’s especially true for Tasmania. Salamanca Wharf Hotel is right by the waterfront, which will just make all that fresh seafood you prepare tastes more authentic, and has been awarded a ‘Stellar Stays’ property, which means it has a place in the top 3% of over 800,000 properties worldwide.

Darwin

Quest Serviced Apartments are another pretty reliable chain. Always nice and central with all the things you need, no muss no fuss. Not all apartments have a fully equipped kitchen though so be sure to be specific when booking.
