Spring’s Here, So Please Plan Your Life Around This Crowdsourced Magpie Map

Take off yer fricken jacket ‘cos spring is finally bloody here!
Great news warm weather enthusiasts, not so great news for cyclists who value not bleeding.
As any denizen of our great country knows, spring is notorious for reminding magpies to get really pissed off and attack anything even slightly near their nest. Without going too far into the science of the whole thing, it has a lot (everything) to do with them having babies and protecting them. I wouldn’t want cyclists hovering around my offspring either, tbh.
If you’re game enough to get on a bike without a cable tie laden helmet this spring, the MagpieAlert website will give you all the hot tips on where the menaces have attacked or are known to attack.
Clicking on a flagged area of the map will bring up a description of the attack and whether an injury was sustained.
Ishini from Melton South recounts a particularly savage encounter.
“There’s a bunch of magpies. Avoid area at all costs, I had my earphones in and it came from nowhere. For 15 minutes I ran away and was attacked 13 times despite throwing stones, in fact it followed me home. STAY AWAY!”

Make no bones about it, if a magpie could it will kill you and your entire family. Be safe, riders of the bicycle.
