It happens every damn time a new iPhone comes out. The rule is simple: do not do what the internet tells you to do to your brand new device. If a grainy JPEG on Tumblr tells you to microwave your iPhone for an ‘instant charge’ – do not do it. If a post from your aunt on Facebook tells you that iPhones actually work better in high-heat environments, do not listen.
And if a picture online says you can get your iPhone 7’s headphone jack back by literally drilling a hole in the bottom of the device – look I’m bloody sick of tellin’ ya. Don’t do it.
A more likely outcome of following the sage advice of this hoax meme is that you will drill into the phone’s lithium-ion battery, which will detonate and kill you.
On the other hand, though: why not try it? It surely cannot hurt to try. Maybe Apple has left a little Easter egg in here for us all to enjoy. You first.
