Netflix Is Planning To Cut Sick On Pirates By Hiring Someone To Pursue Them

It’s fair to say Netflix offers a pretty sweet deal; a huge library of content for a reasonable monthly fee. But just because it’s affordable doesn’t mean folks aren’t finding ways to watch for free.

There are plenty of dodgy sites online where you can stream Netflix originals like Stranger Things, Orange is the New Black and House of Cards, which is exactly why the company is now looking for a Copyright and Content Protection Coordinator.

“He or she will be tasked with supporting the Netflix Global Copyright & Content Protection Group in its internal tactical take down efforts with the goal of reducing online piracy to a socially unacceptable fringe activity,” the listing says.

Based in Los Angeles, the job calls on a candidate with experience in a similar role who is “very well versed in managing an effective notice and take down program”. While continuing these efforts is one part of the job, they’re also planning on carrying out “day to day scanning of Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Periscope, Google Search, Bing Search, VK, DailyMotion and all other platforms (including live platforms) used for piracy”.

Incredibly, the streaming service has already sent out more than a million take-down requests in its long fight against piracy, but now they’re looking to kick it up a notch.

Netflix are also keen for someone to help evaluate and implement new technology to help them tackle illegal sharing of their content. Interestingly, that includes “industry fingerprint technologies”.

They’re certainly not the first company ready to take on the challenge. Village Roadshow recently announced their plan to pursue Aussie pirates who continue to illegally stream or download their copyrighted content.
