It’s Not Just You: Switch Owners Are Reporting Issues With The Left Joy-Con

We’re still in the early days of the Nintendo Switch release and some cracks are starting to show.

As you probably know, the console comes with two Joy-Con controllers – one for each side of the portable screen that can also be used wirelessly. Many users are reporting issues with the left controller specifically, noting sporadic connectivity problems, creating a subsequent pain in the ass.
Nintendo have responded to the complaints, but only to suggest that players remove any obstacles between the controllers and the console to prevent interference. Others, like the Spawn Wave YouTube channel said fuck to that and decided to crack the bad boy open and have a poke around themselves.
Now, before you go copying the video below, we don’t recommend doing so unless you’re into voiding your warranty. You don’t want that.
When old mate opened both the left and the right controllers, he found that the right-hand one had a separate circuit board just for the antenna, whereas the left-hand antenna was built straight into the main circuit board.
That’s all well and good, but the big metal box that houses the joystick is situated right next to that antenna, creating a potential obstruction to connectivity.
So he uses a piece of wire to extend the antenna down to the other end of the controller and wouldn’t ya know it, the connectivity on that controller becomes significantly stronger.
At the end of the day, you’re best off just waiting until Nintendo fix the issue themselves. If we’re lucky, it could just be a simple software update that does the trick.
You’ll be pissing tears if you end up breaking your Joy-Con and your warranty.
You
