Instagram’s About To Put Your Likes In The Feed, So Watch Yr Thirst Taps

If all the Instagram posts you like recently were to show up in your friends’ feeds, would you be ok with that? If you’re a thirst merchant, I’d wager you’re screaming ‘NO’ right about now.

Instagram is testing a new “recommended for you section”, which will put posts that your mates have liked into your feed, as well as other posts that the platform thinks you’ll like based on an algorithm. Of course, you’ve been able to see what your friends have liked for a little while via the Following tab in notifications, but now it might be all up in your grill, or rather, your feed.

If implemented, the feature has the potential to shake up the entire platform and fundamentally change how you interact with your friends on it. Looks like you better watch that liking finger of yours, huh?

Instagram now also lets you follow a hashtag the same way you’d follow a person, in turn funnelling all the hot garbage that comes with that particular tag straight into your feed. What a delight.

If you’re keen, all you have to do is tap on or search for a hashtag and you’ll see an option to follow it. That’s it. It’s also worth noting that any hashtags you do follow will be visible to your friends, so you probably don’t want to follow anything weird. There doesn’t appear to be an option to turn this off.

So if you thought your Insta feed was already dense enough, prepare yourself for more. At least you’ll be able to call out your mates for liking or following weird / thirsty shit.
