If This Expert Is Right, The iPhone 8 May Be Way Pricier Than We Thought

A noted Apple watcher reckons the new iPhone is gonna be pretty fucking expensive and folks, he’s been right before.
It’s safe to say that a brand new, top-of-the-line iPhone is gonna cost you a pretty penny, particularly if it’s just been launched. If you’ve got your eyes on the upcoming iPhone 8, strap yourself in.
Developer John Gruber reckons the upcoming smartphone will cost $1,200 ($1,566 AUD), at the fucking entry level. Previous reports surmised that figure would be around $1,000 ($1,305 AUD), which is generally par for the course when dealing with a new iPhone.
Supply constraints and huge demand for the product, Gruber says, are the reasons for the potential price hike.
“It sounds to me like the OLED iPhone is a phone which Apple can’t make 40 million of per quarter, at least not today,” he said during one of his podcasts.

And if that’s true, that means it should be more expensive. Not should in any moral sense, but simply because that’s how the principle of supply and demand works. When supply is constrained and demand is high, prices go higher. The higher prices alleviate demand.
Why should you trust old mate Gruber’s guess? He’s been doing it correctly for a while now. Back when the Apple Watch came out, he correctly guessed that the fancy gold range would cost thousands, even though other industry experts disagreed.
If the rumours of supply troubles are true, Gruber says the new phone will start at $1,199 ($1,565 AUD) for 64GB storage, but could go as high as $1,249 ($1,630 AUD). The 256GB model would start at $1,299 ($1,695 AUD), but go as high as $1,399 ($1,825 AUD).
The AU prices above are just straight conversions, so the may not be the best indicator of what we’ll cop here, but either way, it ain’t gonna be kind on the wallet.
