Huawei Has Usurped Apple As The World’s 2nd Biggest Smartphone Brand

Blinking Guy

I bet you clicked into this article because you were sideswiped by the fact that Apple aren’t the largest smartphone brand in the world, didn’t you? Look, fair enough.

Apple had a brief moment as number one in December last year, but have since been playing second fiddle to Samsung. The iPhone makers are now in third place thanks to Chinese company Huawei‘s creative and aggressive marketing, as well as their consistent investment in R&D and manufacturing, putting them in second place.

The company surpassed Apple’s global phone sales for the very first time in June and July of this year.

That’s according to analysis by consulting firm Counterpoint Research, who also point out that this fresh second place might not last too long. There’s a couple of reasons for this, the first being the new iPhone(s) are just around the corner and we all know they’re gonna throw the world into a fucking frenzy.

Secondly, Huawei have a weak presence in South Asian, Indian, and North American markets, which limits their potential “to the near-to-mid-term to take a sustainable second place position behind Samsung.”

The company have the most market pull in China, but is also popular in Latin America, the Middle East, and Europe.

They’re the folks behind the Mate 10 and P10 smartphones, popular for the use of Leica lenses in their cameras.

Apple won’t be shaking in their boots anytime soon, though. Counterpoint reckon the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are still the best-selling smartphones in the world. Their 10th anniversary reveal is bound to strengthen that lead further.

While Huawei have overtaken Apple in global sales, none of their phones even appear on the Top 10 list.

So there you go. Apple may have the best-selling phones, but Samsung still seem to the brand with the biggest market share.
