Here’s All The Futuristic Shit Apple Revealed Today, So RIP Your Wallet

What a bloody morning, huh? Apple finally announced their highly anticipated new iPhones and a whole bunch of other bits and pieces along with them.

Here’s what they showed off during their presentation.

iPhone 8, 8 Plus & X

So it turns out a lot of the rumours we heard were pretty spot on. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are, more or less, updated versions of the 7 and 7 Plus. They both feature a glass front and back with an aluminum highlight. Both models will come in 3 colours: silver, space grey and gold.

The 8 Plus features a 5.5 inch retina display and the 8 has a 4.7 inch display. It comes in two sizes – 64GB and 256GB, the former costing $1,079 AUD and the latter, $1,229 AUD. Orders for the devices start on September 15 and ship on September 22.

The iPhone X is where shit gets real. Featuring an edge-to-edge 5.8 inch Super Retina Display, this model will likely set the precedent for future smartphone technology. The home button and Touch ID have been replaced by Face ID, which uses facial recognition to unlock the device.

As well as Animojis and extended AR capabilities, this (very expensive) phone will have Apple fans absolutely screaming. It’ll be available to order on October 27 and ships on November 3rd. The 64GB model will cost $1,579 AUD and the 256GB is $1,829 AUD.

New Store Designs

The first announcement the company made this morning was about its store designs, which are gonna be changing in weird ways. For starters, larger cities could soon cop Apple Plazas, which are like small shopping malls, but everything is Apple.

They’re also introducing what they call Forums and Boardrooms to teach people how to use their technology with a new type of Genius, the Creative Pro. These are people or artists who will run classes on how to use Apple products to create things, whether it’s photography, music or videos.

Apple Watch

Folks bloody love an Apple Watch. In fact, Tim Cooke says it’s now the number 1 watch in the entire world. Wild stuff.

Along with a bunch of new heart rate monitoring features, the company announced the Apple Watch Series 3, which features built-in cellular.

The biggest selling point here is that you can receive calls on your watch, allowing you to go out without a phone if you’re happy with the essentials it provides. Furthermore, you’ll be able to stream music via Apple Music and use maps.

It’s 70% faster and utilises an integrated electronic sim, rather than having to make room for a plastic card. This means the casing is the same size as the Series 2.

Prices for the new watch start at $459 for the GPS version and $499 for the GPS with cellular. Orders are available from September 15 and are available on September 22.

Apple TV

Yep, it’s Apple TV 4K, folks, and primarily, that just means better quality streaming and remastered screensavers.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s all pretty impressive given the titles available in HD will also be available in 4K at the same price. And if you already bought a movie in HD, you’ll get a 4K upgrade for free. Hell yeah.

Australia will also get local services like 9 Now and Tenplay added to the platform.

That’s pretty much it, but they did demo a very cool new game called Sky, which will also be available on iOS. Essentially, it’s a multiplayer adventure game that lets you and your pals explore an exotic worlds and unlock cool shit.

You can order Apple TV 4K from September 15 which will be available on September 22. The 32GB unit will cost you $249 AUD and the 64GB is $279 AUD.

AirPower

With all this wireless charging being thrown around, it’s only fitting that Apple release their own charging mats. We don’t know much about it yet, but I guess there’s not much to know. You put down your shit, it charges. That’s it.

We do know it’ll charge multiple devices, like your phone, Apple Watch and AirPods, assuming you have the wireless charging case.

You won’t need to charge via an AirPower exclusively, though. The company have thrown their support behind companies like Belkin to ensure the new iPhones are compatible with third-party charging mats.
