Elon Musk’s Tunnel Boring Company Is Selling Flamethrowers For Some Reason

Serial entrepreneur, Elon Musk, has done some pretty incredible things over the years. He was one of the founders of PayPal, at the forefront of electric cars with Tesla, digging tunnels under LA via The Boring Company, and taking to the stars with SpaceX. His next venture? Selling flamethrowers.

That’s right, back in December 2017, Elon promised to start selling the product after flogging 50,000 Boring Company hats. That goal was achieved on Christmas Eve and old mate announced the flamethrowers would be coming “soon”.

At this point, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was all a weird, elaborate joke. Alas, you would be wrong, The Boring Company now legitimately sells gnarly-looking flamethrowers for $500 ($619 AUD).

It’s already available to purchase here if you’re keen (good luck getting that shit through customs), but was first spotted by a Redditor on a Musk-related subreddit, who noticed the URL “boringcompany.com/flamethrower” began redirecting to a page with a password box. One user was able to guess the piss-weak password – “flame.” – and access the site.

Beneath the product are a couple of interesting taglines. “Guaranteed to liven up any party,” says one. “World’s safest flamethrower,” says the other. Both statements are very debatable, to be honest. According to a source who recently visited The Boring Company’s test tunnel, the working prototype appeared to be an Airsoft rifle modified to shoot flames.

Musk posted an Instagram video using one of the units in which he runs at the camera.

What a puzzling comment. Do you want us to buy it or not? I like fun, but agree it’s a terrible idea. The company is also selling a $30 ($37 AUD) fire extinguisher because… Well, I don’t really know. I mean, why even do the flamethrower in the first place?

Shout out to all the unintentional fires this thing causes.
