Cancel Your Afternoon: The Original Starcraft Is Avail To Download Free RN

Ahead of its remastered release, Blizzard have made the original version of StarCraft free to all from today. Additional pylons. You must build them.

Originally, the game was going to be made free once the latest patch – 1.18 – was made officially available later today or early tomorrow morning, but they’ve dropped an early build of the game that can be played on their own public test servers which are hosted in the US.
If you’re just after some single player action, that’ll work as normal on your local PC. Alas, you will not know the untamed joys of pummelling a noob into the ground with a gigantic Zerg hoard. If you wanna do that reliably on local servers, you’ll have to a wait a few more hours for the patch to drop.
You’ll also need to create an account if you wanna play online. The entire download clocks in at a smidge over 1.5GB, which is pretty inoffensive by today’s gaming standards. It comes with LAN support, compatibility for later versions of Windows, customisable keybindings (for the real nerds) and support for borderless fullscreen and windowed fullscreen.
You can download StarCraft right now for zero money over at the Battle.net forums. May your Zergs be swift and your Protoss perpetually complaining about energy.
