Aussies Are Losing Or Breaking 1,370 Smartphones Per Day & Fkn Stop That

Look, we’re all guilty of damaging or completely losing our phones after a few too many vinos from time to time, but this is just insane.

According to new research by Finder, Australians lose or destroy their phones at a staggering rate of 1,370 per day. That’s 2.5 million smartphones in total over the past five years. Jesus, guys, hold onto your shit.

The stats show that Gen Y are three times worse than Baby Boomers when it comes to losing or breaking their phones, with 26 percent admitting to needing a replacement device.

With the average cost of a replacement clocking in at $300, the research calculates we’ve spent at least $755 million because of our clumsiness.

You can see why Apple are fighting to remain the only company that’s authorised to repair their iPhones. They’d be making a killing from repairs and replacements alone.

Speaking of which, there’s a push happening right now to introduce Right to Repair laws in Australia, which would force manufacturers like Apple to give the public and third-party repairers access to the tools to fix the devices themselves.

“[The manufacturers] shall make available for purchase by owners and independent repair providers all diagnostic repair tools incorporating the same diagnostic, repair, and remote communications capabilities that such original equipment manufacturer makes available to its own repair or engineering staff,” says the proposed legislation.

“[Manufacturers] may not exclude diagnostic, service, and repair documentation necessary to reset a security-related electronic function from information provided to an owner or independent repair provider.”

In the meantime, buy a better case or something. Fuck.
