During today’s Nintendo Direct announcement, the company certainly saved the best for last. The classic Zelda title, Link’s Awakening, is getting a remake for the Switch, folks.
There isn’t a lot of detail just yet, but Nintendo says this isn’t just a remaster, it’s a “modern re-imagining,” which, in my mind, means we’ll get all the nostalgia with a premium level of polish, along with some new content, kinda like Capcom‘s remaster of Resident Evil 2. None of that’s confirmed, of course, I’m just letting myself get carried away, but I think it’s safe to expect a fantastic result.
“Players once again return to the mysterious island of Koholint to guide Link on a perilous adventure,” the video’s YouTube description reads. It looks absolutely beautiful, as you can see in the announcement trailer below.
Fuck YES. There’s no solid release date just yet, but it’s due out at some point this year.
Link’s Awakening was originally released for the Game Boy in 1993, and again for both the Game Boy Colour and Nintendo 3DS. IGN gave the colourised version of the game a perfect score in its 1999 review, as did some other publications, so it’s safe to say it’s one of the most popular Zelda games of all time.
Honestly, this simply can’t come soon enough. Givvus.
