YouTube Are Doing Us All A Solid By Axing Those Unskippable 30-Second Ads

If purgatory exists, I’m almost certain a large portion of it is trying to watch really good YouTube videos, except the ads never end. It’s just a continuous reel of 30-second advertisements for eternity.

Terrifying afterlife possibilities aside, YouTube ads suck. More accurately, the longer ads that you can’t even skip suck and must be viciously returned to the void. YouTube owners, Google, agree and are doing just that.
You see, 30 seconds of boring advertising is enough to turn impatient viewers away from the site and that’s bad. They’d rather keep you watching that sweet content. Of course, there’s a catch.
This isn’t an instant implementation of sweet ad-lessness, these longer ads won’t be ditched until 2018. Furthermore, you’ll still need to cop unskippable 15-second and 20-second ads, as well as more 6-second “bumper ads” that will be added. You can’t skip these ones either.
So the next time you’re forced to watch a 30-second add, you can smile knowing that it will soon perish forever.
