‘Woof3D’ Is A Mod That Lets You Pat The Nazi Dogs In ‘Wolfenstein 3D’

Some of the earliest PC games I ever played were Wolfenstein 3D (often shortened to Wolf3D) and Doom 2. I can’t remember which one I experienced first, but at the time I told them apart by their enemies – one of them was owning Nazis and the other was owning demons from hell.

Both franchises are still alive and well today under the very good and cosy roof of publisher, Bethesda, but both were also built on a very fond, pixelated foundation that resurfaces from time to time, usually in the form of mods.

One of the latest mods doesn’t enhance the graphics or control schemes that others often do, this one simply lets you pet the dogs in Wolf3D. The enemy dogs.

Instead of shooting the Nazi dogs like you normally would, Return to Castle Woofenstein 3D (or Woof3D), would prefer to gently pat the dogs until they fall asleep. You can even pat the human Nazis until they fall asleep, too.

The mod was created by Twitter user, SK_Louie, who recently posted some gameplay footage. Check it out below.

As you can see, your gun has been completely replaced by a hand that doles out pats like a vending machine on the fritz. Please note that what are usually portraits of Hitler or Nazi symbolism have been replaced by “DOGS RULE”, which is an entirely accurate fact.

Make no mistake, the dogs can still kill you. Those excited jumps aren’t completely benign, even though they’re cute as hell. It’s a nice little mod that helps offset the guilt I feel every time I’m forced to kill a dog in a game. Please know that I only do it out of self-defence.

If you’re keen to pat some pixelated dogs, you can get Woof3D right here.
