Will Ferrell has done some cracker movies over the years. From the excessively quotable Anchorman to the still piss-pantsingly funny Step Brothers, the guy’s had a damn good run.
For his next role, Will is playing a professional gamer in a yet to be titled movie about eSports. As a fan of both eSports and Ferrell, I’m both excited and worried for the potential results. It’s the kind of concept that’s either going to be really good, or painfully bad.
Actual eSports teams Evil Geniuses and Fnatic are allegedly taking part in the film which should help to add authenticity to the idea. In the real world, professional gamers often enter the sport in their teens and retire in their early 20’s, making Ferrell’s part all the more wacky. Classic.
The film will be produced by Legendary, Mosaic and Gary Sanchez Productions. Let’s hope this turns out better than Semi-Pro or Blades of Glory, the less-good Ferrell movies.
