You gotta feel for Kingdom Hearts fans: despite a steady stream of handheld-only titles and HD updates, a fully-fledged follow-up to Kingdom Hearts II has been twelve years in the making.
The brand new trailer for Kingdom Hearts III shows the wait may have just been worth it. We’ll let a particularly hyped Stan on Reddit explain why:
YEP. The latest expansion of the ludicrous cross-over universe shared between Disney and developer Square Enix has been showcased in a blockbuster trailer at the D23 convention, and it legitimately looks like the player becomes a part of the cinematic Toy Story world.
That’s because, at long last, that corner of the Disney / Pixar canon has actually been made available to Square Enix. While the gameplay looks as fluid and fun as ever, we’re equally stoked on Japanese-dubbed Woody and Buzz Lightyear.
It all feels so legit, because even Pixar’s chief John Lasseter got involved in the production. Tangled and Big Hero 6 will also be featured in Kingdom Hearts III, and after this reveal, we’re holding out for a Wall-E world, too.
Kingdom Hearts III drops on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One next year.
