The Rumour Mill Is Spinning Hard For Claims Apple May Buy Disney Or Netflix

Apple has a lot of money. Like, an incredibly huge amount of cash. We’re talking Scrooge McDuck levels of currency here.

The tech company is currently sitting on a quarter of a trillion dollars. Cash. Ready to spend. Fucking hell.
Now that I’ve hopefully planted an image of Tim Cook bathing in hundred dollar bills into your mind, let’s talk about what Apple intends to do with that absurd amount of money.
The only correct answer to that question, really, is no one actually knows. But that hasn’t stopped the pundits from having a red hot stab at the possibilities. Let me tell you folks, they’re bloody wild.
Essentially, rumours are flying about which big company Apple have their sights set on acquiring. That list includes Tesla, Netflix, or motherfucking Disney. Disney
Each of these companies has some kind of value to Apple’s own dealings or desire to branch out into other areas. Tesla, for example, would be ideal for the company’s own pursuits into driverless cars. Netflix, on the other hand, would serve Apple’s persistent yearning to provide its customers with a TV service.
Walt Disney Co, however, is a whole other, bigger, kettle of fish. We’re talking about a potential merger that would make Apple the world’s first trillion dollar company. Consider what that means for a moment. A single company that owns some one the most successful products and media in the world.
That’s iPhone, iPad, Mac, Disneyland, ESPN, Lucasfilm, Pixar, Mickey Mouse and Marvel. Sweet lord.
That kind of purchase doesn’t come cheap, as you’d imagine. RBC Capital Markets analyst, Amit Daryanani estimates Apple would need to pay $157 per Disney share, or $US250 billion ($336 billion).
It makes sense, given the eventual decline of the smartphone, that Apple would want to make such a huge play. They need to diversify if they want to stay relevant.
We all remember what happened to Nokia, don’t we?
