Late last year, serial entrepreneur Elon Musk made some funny tweets while he was stuck in notoriously bad LA traffic.
Traffic is driving me nuts. Am going to build a tunnel boring machine and just start digging…

It shall be called “The Boring Company”

Classic Elon.
Now, I, like many others, assumed this was just a silly joke, dismissing that Musk is A) extremely wealthy and B) a fiend for business. Business is like heroin to him.
But it emerged in February that he was deadset serious about the venture and even acquired a boring machine. Still, I thought this would all culminate in some kind of sick burn to the internet sometime around April 1st. Nope, he’s still fucking serious.

A SpaceX employee recently shared a picture of part of his boring machine – nicknamed “Nannie” – which is 400 feet long and weighs 1,200 tons.
Elon’s currently using the machine to dig a tunnel under the SpaceX car park in LA. It doesn’t actually go anywhere except down, so his intentions are unclear at this stage. Maybe it’s the beginning of his own Stone Cutters-esque secret traffic avoidance tunnel.
The moral of the story? Always assume Elon Musk is serious.
