Telstra’s Dropping A New 4G Router That Will Make Your ADSL Internet Cry

Telstra and Netgear have teamed up to make nifty modem that goes really fast. Seriously, it’s fucking quick.

In fact, it’s achieved download speeds of 1000mbps, which is the fastest of its kind in the world on a 4G network. You beauty.
To put that in perspective, an average ADSL 2+ connection will get you speeds around 20mbps, and that’s if you’re close enough to the exchange.
It’s called the Nighthawk M1 and works by using four of the five separate Telstra frequencies instead of just one. In other words, it’s able to pick up a 4G signal four times.
The technology is part of Telstra’s promise to deliver gigabit 4G to the Australian public. As well as lightening WiFi speeds, the portable router also has a built-in ethernet connection, making it a viable alternative for those with a shitty DSL connection.
It can support up to 20 connected devices at any one time and has both a normal and a Type-C USB port for charging and media streaming. The battery will last about 24 hours with continuous use.
All of the Nighthawk M1’s settings and parental controls can be tweaked via a neat little Netgear mobile app, making it easy for the everyday user to get the most out of the hardware. Many of your run-of-the-mill pleb routers can be complicated to setup and alter if you’re not savvy with the fine art of computers.
You
As with all things internet related, what a device and connection can achieve doesn’t always mean it will achieve it. It all depends on the density of traffic in an area, the strength of your signal etc.
Even with that in mind, the Nighthawk will still shit all over your sad ADSL connection.
You can pick one up via Telstra’s range of 4GX plans coming this month, or you can purchase one outright for 360 bones.
