A Massive Telstra Network Outage Is Impacting Customers Nationwide

A huge 3G and 4G mobile outage is currently affecting Telstra customers across the country, with many taking to social media to express their frustration with the disruption.

The telco has since confirmed the issue, stating that it’s “working to resolve the issue and are investigating the root cause,” via a tweet. Customers across Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Hobart, Brisbane and Perth have all reported mobile outages in their cities.

The outage began around 10am this morning and appears to be ongoing. The company also addressed concerns over emergency phone calls, stressing that they’ll be facilitated by other networks during the disruption.

Twitter users have been posting about the event, some asking others if they’re affected, and some showing evidence of the outage.

Some users are also having trouble accessing the Telstra outages page.

The company has since indicated that traffic is returning to normal. “Our 4G voice and data traffic volume is improving nationally after we bypassed hardware which had been preventing some customers from accessing the 4G mobile network,” a spokesperson told PEDESTRIAN.TV.

“3G voice and data volumes are also improving.  We are very sorry for the interruption to services, either directly to customers or through business and government services.”

UPDATE: Telstra has told us its “3G and 4G voice and data traffic are approaching typical daily levels but we are still working to resolve intermittent issues or delayed call connection for some customers.” The telco is still investigating the root cause and continue to stress that 000 calls are not affected.
