SWEET DAMN: 5G Network Tests Show You Can Download 600 Movies In 1 Min

That’s the dream, isn’t it? Downloading so many movies so quickly that you’ll never have the time to watch them all, let alone arrange them in an orderly fashion on your hard drive and create a corresponding catalogue in Excel.

Well get ready to piss through your data allowance in minutes, ‘cos Telstra have just field tested their new 5G network at max speeds of 20 gigabits per second. With that kind of breakneck speed, you can download 600 high-quality movies in a single, beautiful minute.
YES M8.
Telstra’s Chief Technology Officer, Philip Jones, says this test is a good indicator of the kind of bullshit speeds they can offer when the service is launched.

“This is the first 5G trial on Australian soil, and the outdoor nature of the test has provided a true sense of what 5G will be able to offer customers once it is launched commercially,” he said.
Granted, the network and devices capable of using it won’t be rolled out until about 2020, but it’s a promising glance into the future of the interwebs and the sweet, sweet fruits it yields. Let me list a few of them for you now.
FAST GAMING.
FAST MEMES.
FAST NONSENSE FACEBOOK TAGGING WITH FRIENDS.
FAST SHOPPING FOR THINGS YOU’RE TOO EMBARRASSED TO BUY IN PERSON.
Endless fun, really.
According to Telstra’s Managing Director of Networks, Mike Wright, the technology used in the 5G network involves hundreds of small antenna that are each capable of sending powerful, direct beams, as opposed to 4G’s broader approach.

“The test bed used 800 MHz of spectrum in a previously unattainable, high frequency band, which is 10 times more spectrum than we use with our 4G service,” he said.
Yesterday’s tests show that these ridic speeds should be achievable up to 100km away from the nearest tower. I, for one, simply can’t wait to view thousands of memes in the incredibly fast succession achievable at such speeds.
