‘Spyro The Dragon’ Is Reportedly Copping A Remastered Release This Year

After the huge success of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy remaster, Activision has decided to cash in again, this time on a remaster of Spyro the Dragon.

Yep, the original three games – Spyro the Dragon, Gateway to Glimmer, and Year of the Dragon – are getting a remastered release later this year. They’ll be PS4 exclusives, at least at first, with other platforms touted for a possible port.

Speaking with Kotaku, sources say the games will include improved visuals and new assets, a remastered soundtrack, and with other enhancements.Vicarious Visions – the same studio who worked on the N. Sane Trilogy remaster – will be working on this one.

Definitely looking a little rough around the edges these days.

In other words, expect a treatment similar to the one Crash received. If that doesn’t get you excited for some high definition fire breathing action, I don’t know what will.

Reportedly, the trilogy may even include content that didn’t make the originals. There’s no real word on what that might be, but it’s probably in the same vein as the N. Sane Trilogy’s Stormy Ascent level, which was previously only accessible via an emulator or GameShark.

Kotaku say the project will be announced next month with a release date in the third quarter of 2018. Like Crash Bandicoot, it’ll hit the PS4 first with a possibility of an Xbox One release.

Activision previously stated that they’ll probably pump out more remasters, given the N. Sane Trilogy’s huge success. As Spyro was just as popular, I wouldn’t be surprised if this release has the same impact. There might even be more remasters in the pipeline if so.

Spyro the Dragon was released on the PS1 20 years ago this September, so if I were to put money on it, I’d say they’ll be aiming the release for then.

Nostalgia is a powerful drug, BABYYYYY.
