Samsung’s New “Ambient Mode” Makes Your Telly Look Like A Floating Frame

Samsung has just revealed its new new range of schmick tellies, and while they’re just as technically impressive as you’d think, they’ve also showcased a new feature that’ll make them look almost non-existent.

Unveiled at an event in New York, the so-called “Ambient Mode” looks and sounds insane, but is actually a pretty simple idea. First, you need to take a picture of the wall that the TV is mounted to and set it as the background image.

Once Ambient Mode is activated, it’ll display things like the time and weather in a way the looks like it’s floating on the actual wall. From the right angle, it’ll just look like some floating bezels. Bloody nice one.

They even have a patented invisible cable that’s damn near impossible to spot which runs to a breakout box which has all the standard HDMI, ethernet, power, antenna, and USB ports needed.

To disguise the unit even more, the image can cast the digital shadow that a floating black rectangle would.

The new range also boast Samsung’s QLED panels, which use Quantum Dot technology to make colours look vibrant as hell. It does this by using tiny semiconductor particles engineered to express increased colour volume.

The company’s 2018 TVs range from 55 inches to 88 inches in size and come with a built-in timer that will turn Ambient Mode off when you’re not around to make sure you’re not wasting bulk electricity. No one can afford that.

Samsung also claims that because Quantum Dots are inorganic materials, there’s little risk of screen burn-in – something that would usually prompt users to keep their TVs off when not in use.

Impressive, no? The range will be available in Australia in April, but there’s no prices available just yet. If you’ve ever yearned for a TV that’s close to invisible, well, here you go.
