PSA: Update Your iPhone, ‘Cos A Cyberarms Dealer Currently Has Access

In what sounds like the B-grade plot to the next Die Hard movie we didn’t ask for, it’s been confirmed that an “established private cyberarms dealer” has spun up a way to get into every iPhone in the world. Lawd help us all.

Lol, ya can’t shoot the internet ya dunce.
Brought to you by the fairly benign sounding NSO Group, the malware exploits what developers refer to as, ahem, “backdoor” vulnerabilities by simply enticing you to tap on a link to jailbreak your phone. From there, it disables iOS restrictions that would normally prevent unauthorised nasty people gaining access to your stuff.
And we’re not just talking access to your premium stash of nudes, either. Along with that, these hackers can intercept your phones calls, text messages, FaceTimes, get all up in your emails and pretty much every other communication app you have installed. It’s all very grim.
Apple were alerted to the threat and responded quick bloody smart, releasing the iOS 9.3.5 update. So, you know, you should probably get on that rn.
According to reports from Citizen Lab and mobile security firm Lookout, this kind of malware is terrifying and the first of its kind to be observed.
To put an even Die Hardier spin on the whole situation, the malware has been codenamed Pegasus. I woulda called it a Shazzwazza
So after you play your 174th game of Solitaire this morning, update your phone before that munted picture of you from last weekend ends up on 4chan or whatever.
