ABE’S BACK: Here’s The First Gameplay Footage For ‘Oddworld: Soulstorm’

The first gameplay footage of the brand new Oddworld game is here and if there’s one thing you should take from it, it’s that Abe‘s back, baby.

While it’s not due out until early next year, Oddworld: Soulstorm looks like it’s coming together really nicely, combining the gameplay elements from earlier entries with the beautifully crafted visuals and cinematics of modern gaming.

In other words, it seems just like the Oddworld games we loved from the early PlayStation days, but with a modern edge. You can check out the trailer below for yourself.

According to IGN, game director, Lorne Lanning, says Soulstorm’s plot centres around an energy drink called Soulstorm Brew, the origins and purpose of which are revealed over the course of the game. I wonder if there are some Soylent Green themes running through here. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Like its predecessors, Soulstorm is a 2.5D game, meaning you’ll mostly be travelling across platforms in two directions and, to a lesser extent, forward or backwards through certain scenery.

The campaign, Lanning told IGN, will add up to between 12 and 15 hours, but there will be plenty to replay for hardcore fans.

The platforms Soulstorm will appear on are yet to be announced but given the later titles were on just about everything, I’d wager this will be the same. We’ll probably know more about it when E3 rolls around in June, so keep your eyes open for that.
